Clinical Contour™ is now being offered on all Med-Mizer®, Inc. beds. What is
Clinical Contour™?
The term Automatic Contour has been used to describe a bed surface adjustment for Resident/Patient
Beds offered by some manufacturers. The term refers to the automatic elevation of the knee section
simultaneously with the head section elevation. This function is designed to prevent the Resident/Patient
from gravitating toward the foot section of the bed when the head is elevated. This is an excellent feature
that reduces gravitation as well as shear. However, this is a valuable feature only up to a certain degree
of knee section elevation. After a certain degree, pressure starts to build up, putting undue force on the
sacral and upper shoulder areas, thus creating shearing points. Med-Mizer®, Inc.'s beds have automatic
contour, but they have taken it a step further. This further step is called Clinical Contour™!
The EXCLUSIVE feature, Clinical Contour™, that Med-Mizer®, Inc. beds offer is: the knee section
elevates high enough to prevent the Resident/Patient from gravitating to the foot section of the bed. It
automatically stops at 10 degrees, which reduces the undue pressure on the sacral and upper shoulders. Thus,
the term Clinical Contour™. The design of the bed still permits either lower or higher knee section
positions that may be ordered by the Physician for certain therapeutic procedures.
