SIDE RAIL ENTRAPMENT Every patient, regardless of care setting, deserves a safe and comfortable bed environment. Med-Mizer's goal is to provide this environment to patients/residents in hospitals and long term care facilities. That is why our products are designed using the guidance of the Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup (HBSW). "In April of 1999, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in partnership with representatives from the hospital industry, national healthcare organization, patient advocacy groups and other federal agencies formed the HBSW. The workgroup's goal is to improve the safety of hospital beds for patients in all health care settings who are most vulnerable to the risk of entrapment." On March 10, 2006 HBSW finalized the Hospital Bed Entrapment Zones to reduce incidents. Consequently a Bed System Measurement Device was created so that manufacturers or end users can test side rails so that entrapment is mitigated. Med-Mizer used the test kit to test the currently produced Med-Support Arm. After several tests on June 19, 2006, Med-Mizer concluded that the Med-Support Arm passes each of the zones required by HBSW.
